Dear Heaven Scent Family,
Juneteenth carries a deeply personal and powerful meaning for me as a Black woman and the founder of Heaven Scent Collective, a brick-and-mortar candle making workshop and retail space. It’s more than a date on the calendar; it lives in the quiet, everyday moments. The moments when I unlock the shop each morning, light the first test candle, and remember why I started this journey.

Those small rituals remind me that what I’m building is bigger than me. It’s part of a legacy that stretches back through generations of strength, resilience, and hope.
I often think of my grandmother Lena, who worked as a maid in the South during a time when doors were closed to people who looked like her. Her strength was steady and unspoken, but it shaped everything I am today. The quiet determination she carried through every long day is engrained in every candle we pour. Honoring her legacy isn’t just a phrase; it’s the foundation of this business and the soul of Heaven Scent Collective.
At Heaven Scent Collective, every candle is more than fragrance. It’s a gesture of gratitude, a symbol of connection, and a light honoring where we’ve been, who we are today, and the future we’re building together.
Juneteenth reminds me that my store is more than a business—it’s a statement. It reminds me that owning a business, especially a physical space, is a form of resistance and celebration. It’s about creating beauty, fostering community, and showing up authentically every single day.

To everyone who walks through our doors or supports this dream from afar, Thank you! Your belief in this vision helps carry a legacy forward and turns it into light one candle at a time.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Lori Mitchell Founder, Heaven Scent Collective
